Be Breast Aware During October!

What can I say to impress the importance of this message?  It is through education and awareness that we will eventually beat breast cancer.

I am a rarity in that none of the women in my family (knock on wood) have been diagnosed with breast cancer  ~ TO DATE.  WE are the lucky FEW!  And according to the statistics, it may not stay that way.

Here are some statistics that I pulled from the Canadian Cancer Society:
1.        It is estimated in this year 23,400 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer and 5,100    women will die of it.
2.       On average, 64 Canadian women are diagnosed with breast cancer every day
3.       On average, 14 Canadian women will die of breast cancer every day
4.       1 in 9 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer; and 1 in 29 diagnosed will not survive the fight.
Now here’s my little demonstration, I did this once and it really scared me!  Think of your family, or your friends, or your workplace, name 9 women from that group and know that according to the FACTS 1 out of the 9 women you just named may develop breast cancer.  Maybe you’ve named yourself in that group.  Maybe you named your Mother, Sisters, Aunts, Grandmothers, Wife, Girlfriend, Granddaughters etc.   the Angel in your life that you cannot imagine life without.  Now what do you do?
I guess what I really want to share with you is the importance of AWARENESS; the importance of not being shy or scared and to know the facts and know what to look for.  Your life DEPENDS on it literally!
If there is an Awareness event in your neighborhood, attend it!
If you see an article (or blog like this one), read it AND SHARE IT WITH ALL THE ANGELS IN YOUR LIFE!!
There are fantastic resources out there nowadays spreading awareness.   I personally recommend The Willow Breast Cancer Support Canada (www.willow.org).  Their website is filled with vital information on breast cancer, how to do a self-examination AND the importance of EARLY DIAGNOSIS as well as information to help those living with cancer.
As an Avon Rep, I have participated in Breast Cancer Awareness events and have handed out life- saving materials to numerous women.   Avon as a company is a major contributor of fundraising for the cause through the Avon Foundation for a Cure and special Flame Crusade products.  I was most proud to know that Avon’s Foundation was not just sharing the funds raised with certain hospitals or locales, but that they have touched our own KW region as well!!  Know that when you purchase any of the Avon Flame Crusade products that your purchase goes 100% to Avon’s Foundation for a Cure and back into your community.

If you are interested in Avon Flame Crusade products, you can purchase the Link of Hope Wallet or the Charm bracelet for $4.95 each.  Or you can purchase the brand new addition to the Flame products, the special pink Crusade Wrap for $10.00.  Remember that your purchase goes directly to breast cancer research, awareness and support services like diagnostic equipment and support groups.  Contact me today to get yours and with your Flame Crusade purchase, I will also give you an Awareness Bear that includes tips on how to do a proper self-examination.
Believe in the power of hope…believe in the power of sharing, awareness, and strength.  Together we are strong and it is together that we will beat this disease!  Share the message and save a life today J
